Leading a Lean Transformation - Toronto, ON February 2 & 3, 2012

Thu, Feb 2, 2012 - Fri, Feb 3, 2012
ING Direct Leadership Centre
Pre-requisite:  Lean 101 (or pre-approved equivalent)
Experts in transformational change, based on peer reviewed research, assert that transformational change of any kind in a large organization takes 5-10 years; a Lean transformation is no exception.
This workshop is for Healthcare Leaders whose organizations have embarked upon a Lean journey, and is for executives, process improvement specialists, and quality leaders who have begun to use Lean to improve the delivery of care in their organizations and want to take their Lean efforts to the next level. This workshop is designed to orient participants to sustainably lead Lean efforts and help them begin to shift their Lean implementation from an episodic deployment of tools toward a holistic Lean transformation.
Day 1 will introduce participants to Leading a Lean Transformation, with a focus on tying lean deployment to your organization's strategic plan, developing internal resources and supports focused on continuous improvement, and on the leader standard work required to support this.
Day 2 will introduce participants to best practice in Leading Change in large organisations, and to how deploying Lean management concepts and methods fits within that model of best practice. This change model is based on the work of leading change theorists including Kotter, Lewin, Nadler and Kolodony.  Participants will become familiar with a model for transformational change in large organisations where Lean continuous improvement is to be deployed, and will begin to understand the skills, knowledge and culture needed to lead a Lean transformation initiative effectively. The Lakeview, Leading Transformational Change simulation will be incorporated into this day and participants will have one year of licensed access to the simulation and its resources. This simulation is a must for anyone involved in leading change in their organisation.
After participating in this 2-day workshop you will begin to shift your thinking, or your mental model, of a Lean leader's role in creating a Lean work culture; you will begin to re-align your focus and time from fire-fighting to do what really matters to the organisation. You will begin to understand the difference between deploying Lean tools and initiating a Lean Transformation, and you will begin to understand the difference between Lean events and Lean continuous improvement.
Register early as group size is limited to accommodate activity and interaction.
Pre-requisite*:  Lean 101 (or pre-approved equivalent).
* Please note that the design of this workshop assumes participants have a prior working knowledge of basic Lean concepts and methods.
